| The Pope Benedict XVI |
The Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Alois Ratzinger) was born on 16th April 1927 in Bayern, Germany. He is the 265 Pope that lead Catholic church all over the world. He was chosen on 2005 after John Paul II passed away by sickness sustained. On 2013, after the eight years lead Catholic church, he announced for resign due to health reason.
For that, The Cardinal must looking for new Pope. The selection of new Pope known as conclave. Conclave derived from Latin "cum" (together or with) added by word "clavis" (key).
The implementation of conclave is 15-20 days after the Pope death or resigned. To select new Pope, the cardinal all over the world will gather in Vatican. Then, they do some procedure. The gap of time after the Pope death or resigned called novemdiales. This period end by the mass of Pro Eligendo Papa in the morning on the day that conclave started. After that, they go to the Sistina Chapel to choose new Pope.
Here are the step in chosen new Pope:
- The cardinal go to the Sistina Chapel. Each of them accompany by two assistants. After the mass, the assistants leave them and the chapel lock to start the process of selection.
- Each of cardinal not allowed to bring any kinds of communication tool to communicate and they are not allowed to go to outside during the selection.
- Each of them get a white square paper with Eligo in summum pontificem written on top of paper to write the name of Pope that they choose.
- Next after, when they finish write the name of Pope, they bring that paper and put it in the box in front of altar.
- In the end of selection, each of paper will burn out with mix by the special chemical ingredient. The combustion produces white or black smoke.
- This smoke look clearly from the St. Basilica yard.
- Finally, the cardinal leader will confirm to the selected Pope whether he accept or not. If he says yes the new Pope has chosen. If don't, they will re-select the candidate.
